The Credit Union Difference
As a credit union, or financial cooperative, there are several key elements that distinguish us from other financial institutions. The first difference is what we are not — we are not for profit, not for stockholders and not for charity.
- Our core purpose is to assist our members in gaining economic independence, regardless of their income level.
- Only members of the credit union can use our services.
- Each member is an owner, not a "customer" or "client."
- We are governed by a Volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership.
- Profits are returned directly to our members in the form of higher dividends on savings, lower loan rates, and reduced fees for services.
