Support Angela McCathran for the CUNA Board position
Dear Fellow Credit Union Leader,
As we all are aware, Kris Mecham, will be resigning his position from the CUNA Board effective June 1, 2010. As a result, there will be a special election to determine who will have the honor of representing District 5, Class B credit unions for the remainder of his term.
It would be a true honor to have your support and vote for me to be the next CUNA Director.
For those of you who know me, you know that I am a dedicated credit union professional. I have had the pleasure and opportunity to service in many different capacities throughout my career and have been honored to be recognized for my efforts to improve the lives of our members and the citizens of Houston. Most recently, I am the immediate Past Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Texas Credit Union League Foundation, a leading foundation in the country. Also, I have recently accepted an appointment to the Southwest Corporate Supervisory Committee. As well I am currently a director on the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions and represent my credit union as a board member of two (2) CUSOs.
My career in credit unions started in 1983, and I have had the honor and privilege of learning from and working closely with some of the best professionals in our movement. My career has taken me from Keesler Federal Credit Union located in Biloxi, MS to Golden 1 Credit Union in Sacramento, CA. After several years at Golden 1, I accepted a position at Altura Credit Union in Riverside and nine (9) years ago moved to Houston, TX to be the President/CEO of People’s Trust Federal Credit Union. I have a Bachelor Science from Mississippi University for Women and a Master in Business Administration from California Baptist University. I am a graduate of Western CUNA Management School and am a Credit Union Development Educator. I have a reputation for being an honest, open and forthright individual willing to share my opinions and thoughts in a respectful and professional manner.
However, probably the most important fact to know when contemplating if I am the right person to represent you is that I am politically active at the state and national level. I actively participate and support all call to actions, Hike the Hills, and have successfully engaged the board and staff of my credit union to take a more active participation in these events. I have a personal relationship with two of the three NCUA Board members. I believe it is vitally important for all of us to speak up and express our views to our elected and officials and push our regulators to consider the consequences of their actions.
As your representative on the CUNA board you can be sure that I will be accessible at all times and willing listen and communicate your concerns. I am committed to the betterment of credit unions and protection of our proven business model. I am an activist willing to fight to protect credit unions from unnecessary and onerous regulations.
So when the ballots begin to arrive on May 7, 2010…VOTE. I appreciate your support.
