Opt in for Overdraft Coverage

Many of our members appreciate the ability to overdraft when in need rather than having their debit card purchase declined. This practice avoids embarrassment, harmful late payments that affect credit scores and additional fees charged by merchants.

A new regulation going into effect August 15, 2010 could affect your account. Any everyday debit card transaction or ATM withdrawal that exceeds the available funds in your account will be declined. This may result in a $29 NSF fee and possible additional fees from the merchant, unless you notify us that you want to continue to have overdraft coverage.

We will however continue to authorize and pay overdrafts for checks and automatic bill payments such as your cell phone, electric bill or any other payment that is sent to the credit union as a recurring payment.

We approve overdrafts only in the best interest of our members and the credit union, so we cannot guarantee that we will authorize and pay every transaction.

There is no fee to keep your overdraft service; you will only pay a fee if we pay an overdraft. To protect against overdrafts you can also link your checking to another account such as a line of credit or savings. Please call one of our Virtual Branch Experts at 713.428.3200 and they will be able to assist you in getting that set up.

If you want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM and everyday debit card transactions, simply do one of the following:

  • Fill out this form and mail it back or drop this form in the designated drop box near the teller stations in our branches OR
  • Fill out the online form in HomeBranch

It’s that easy. Should you have any questions, please check out our Frequently Asked Questions or call one of our Virtual Branch Experts at 713.428.3200 or 1.800.321.2411 or visit one of our branches.
